The Ceremonial Meeting of the Academic Community and the Scientific Council of TUKE

On 8th June 2022, the ceremonial meeting of the academic community and the Scientific Council of TUKE, attended by special guests, took place in the Maxima Hall of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the university foundation. Our invitation to the event was accepted by State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic MUDr. RNDr. Ľudovít Paulis, PhD.; Mayor of Košice Ing. Jaroslav Polaček and Consul General of the Republic of Hungary in Slovakia István Buczkő. The ceremonial meeting was also attended by representatives of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovak universities and colleges, and last but not least, representatives of industrial practice: General Manager of AT&T Global Network Services Slovakia Ing. Gabriel Galgóci; Chairman of the Board of KIMEX Group, s.r.o. Ing. Jozef Jankulák; General Manager of SLOVALCO, a.s. Ing. Milan Veselý, PhD., MBA; on behalf of General Manager of ŽELEZIARNE PODBREZOVÁ, a.s. Technical Manager and Member of the Board Ing. Martin Domovec; on behalf of the General Manager of U.S.Steel Košice, s.r.o., Public Affairs Manager Ing. Ján Bača.

“The rich history and successful development of our institution not only binds us, but also challenges us all to work together to maintain the good reputation of our institution, to raise it in the world by constantly increasing quality and prestige, in the spirit of the Humboldt principles of the unity of research and education, autonomy and freedom of research and teaching.”

These were the words TUKE Rector Dr. h. c. prof. h. c. prof. Ing. Stanislav Kmeť, DrSc., started his ceremonial speech with, followed by the reading of a greeting letter from the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová. In the letter, she warmly congratulated the Technical University in Košice on seven decades of successful existence. At the same time, she expressed that she perceives education as a priority, which is a prerequisite not only for the development of society, but also for this society to consist of wise, self-realised and thus happy, individuals. On the occasion of the ceremonial meeting, the Rector of TUKE awarded a commemorative plaque to important partners. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic, the plaque was received by State Secretary MUDr. RNDr. Ľudovít Paulis, PhD. And on behalf of the City of Košice, by Mayor of Košice, Ing. Jaroslav Polaček. The Slovak Academy of Sciences, represented by Prof. RNDr. Pavol Šajgalík, DrSc. And research and technically oriented universities of the Slovak Republic were also awarded the commemorative plaques. For the cooperation, development and spreading the good reputation of TUKE abroad, the commemorative plaques were handed to: Vice-Rector Prof. Jerzy Zajac on behalf of the Rector of the Krakow University of Technology; Vice-Rector Prof. Mgr. Jana Kukutschová, Ph.D. on behalf of the Rector of the Technical University in Brno; Vice-Rector Prof. dr. Peter Szűcs on behalf of the Rector of the University of Miskolc; Dean of the Faculty of Materials and Technology, University of Mining and Technology in Ostrava, Prof. Ing. Kamila Janovská, Ph.D.; Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Mining and Technology in Ostrava, Prof. Ing. Martina Peřinková, Ph.D. Commemorative plaques were also awarded to former TUKE rectors and important TUKE partners and supporters. Last but not least, the Rector of TUKE presented a commemorative plaque to deans of TUKE faculties for the contribution and development of our alma mater.

At the end of the ceremonial meeting, the programme was enlivened by the Collegium Technicum choir concert performance with compositions by Ivan Hrušovský – Gloria from Missa Pro Iuventute (dedicated to CT), Olaf Gjeilo – Northern Lights and Eugen Suchoň – Aká si mi krásna were performed.

Vivat, crescat, floreat: Let the Technical University of Košice live, grow and flourish!
