Results of the competition for the Best Doctoral Thesis at TUKE 2022

University Highlights

The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic has announced “Science and Technology Week in Slovakia 2022”. The Technical University of Košice hosted the competition for the Best Doctoral Thesis where full-time doctoral students from different TUKE faculties presented their theses to the TUKE Commission for Science and Research. The presentations were evaluated in terms of (scientific) content, as well as in terms of the quality of the presentation (poster). Seventeen theses from nine TUKE faculties participated in the competition, however, two theses were not presented due to the absence of doctoral students from the competition. The Commission selected the following four best of the fifteen theses presented:

Scientifically, the following were evaluated as the best:

Ing. Matej Gazda – FEI
Topic: Deep convolutional neural networks for classification in medical imaging
Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Ján Plavka, CSc.

Ing. Matúš Geľatko – FVT
Topic: Research on innovative methods of non-destructive testing of metal products of additive manufacturing
Supervisor: Dr. h. c. prof. Ing. Michal Hatala, PhD.

From the quality point of view of the presentation (poster), the following were evaluated as the best:

Ing. Jana Budajová – SvF
Topic: Research of determining parameters of architectural and construction design of buildings
Supervisor: prof. Ing. Silvia Vilčeková, PhD.

Ing. Jakub Demčák – FVT
Topic: Research on SMART identification technologies implementation into a DigitalTwin
Supervisor: doc. Ing. Kamil Židek, PhD.

We warmly congratulate all the winners and wish them lots of success in creative scientific work. The awards will be given to them in the presence of the TUKE Rector, Dr. h. c. prof. h. c. prof. Ing. Stanislav Kmeť, DrSc., and the Vice-Rector for Science, Research, and Doctoral Study, prof. Ing. Ivo Petráš, DrSc.
