Opening of the OpenLab at TUKE

On Monday, September 24, 2018, opening ceremony of the OpenLab, an open digital platform designed primarily for students of information technologies, took place. Architecturally modern space of the highest standards will be used for development and research of modern technologies such as Internet of Things or Artificial intelligence.

Prof. Stanislav Kmeť, the Rector of TUKE, Rastislav Trnka, the president of the Košice self-governing region and Daniel Giebel, managing director of T-Systems Slovakia, all spoke to the attendants. They all agreed that such cooperation projects with the private sector help to make education more attractive and enhance its quality, to develop innovations and to prevent the outflow of young talented people from the region. The project promoting modern education was created within the framework of cooperation between the university and T-Systems Slovakia, which is aimed to continue to support the potential of innovations and development in the region.

Various kinds of information can be displayed and results of student projects can be presented in the OpenLab. In addition, students can spend their free time there while using their knowledge and compete in programming and design in virtual arenas. OpenLab also allows them to, for example, design, create and test a modern client telecom operator´s centre, think about a bank or school of the future or design a digital car showroom.
