TUKE Kicked Off the New Academic Year with More Than 13,600 Students from 52 Countries

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) officially kicked off the new 2026/2027 academic year on Monday, September 21, 2029.
The opening ceremony, attended by more than 4,000 students and university staff at the Slávia Stadium of TU Košice, was a celebration of academic values, cutting-edge education and science, as well as the university’s significant achievements.
In his speech, University Rector Peter Mésároš emphasized that technical education is one of the most important pillars of Slovakia’s successful future.
“Our engineers and experts are the ones who are at the forefront of designing infrastructure, developing digital solutions, and ensuring energy stability. Without them, we would not be able to develop industry, innovation, or a modern society,” he said.
The rector also highlighted the university’s strong collaboration with key partners.
“TUKE is an integral part of the city and the entire region. We want to be a partner that not only responds to the needs of its surroundings but also, together with the city, the region, companies, and other institutions, thinks about its future,” he added.
The importance of cooperation with TUKE as a key partner in the fields of technical education, science, and research was also highlighted in the remarks of the distinguished guests: Róbert Zsembera, State Secretary for Higher Education and Academic Research at the Ministry of Education, Research, Development, and Youth of the Slovak Republic; Rastislav Trnka, Chairman of the Košice Self-Governing Region; and Jaroslav Polaček, Mayor of Košice.
