Graduation Ceremony of the University of the Third Age Graduates

For more than 25 years, the Technical University of Košice has been offering, through the University of the Third Age (UTV), an opportunity for further qualification, personal development and social inclusion. It requires a certain degree of determination, self-discipline and desire to change your life.

On May 25, 2018, 178 students in 8 fields of study (Mental Hygiene/ Psychohygiena/ , Art History, English Language, Sociology and Social Psychology, Aviation /Letecká doprava/, Informatics and Information Technologies, Veterinary Medicine and Geoturism /Geoturizmus/) finished their studies by graduation ceremony at the auditorium Aula Maxima of TUKE.

Although, UTV graduates are not awarded any academic title, this type of study is very popular. The desire for knowledge gives them the opportunity to form a new life perspective. An important role is also played by the possibility of contact with other people (not only with the people from the same age group, but from the other generations as well). The oldest graduate in this academic year was 85-year-old Ms Irena Vargová. Enthusiasm which was perceptible at the graduation ceremony is the mirror of their attitude to study, which could be envied by many students in a regular university study. Their interest is the best award for organizers and teachers who act as guarantors and lecturers in respective fields of study.

In this academic year, two new fields of study were opened in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy – Pharmacy and Family and Public Finances. In the next academic year, opening of the field of study titled Košice at the Crossroads of History (Košice na križovatkách dejín) is planned.
