TU-KART 2017

After a successful pilot year, the unique TU-KART kart competition returned to the grounds of Technical University of Košice.

On October 17, 2017, the best drivers who fought through the qualification on the Cassovia Ring stood against each other at the start line. Students in both full-time and part-time form of study were able to take part in the race. At the beginning of the race, the best Slovak car racer and ambassador of this race, Maťo Homola, prepared a detailed instruction for the racers. Of the 280 qualified students, 64 best male students and 12 best female students were at the start. This year, the track was extremely technical, and moreover, racers were penalised in case of mistakes.

The fastest man on the circuit was Róbert Ballo, who set the track record at 46,52 seconds and revealed a recipe for success:
“The tips that Maťo Homola gave us were very helpful. By coincidence, I was in the front row, when Maťo was explaining the most effective and quickest ways how to go through each curve.“ The overall champion of the TU-KART, however, was Tomáš Cifranič, whose best time was 47,128 s. As he himself said, he owes the result to the regular practice.

Denisa Starinská took the title in the women´s category. Thanks to her fantastic time, 49.65 seconds, she would run rings arounds most of the racers in the male category. Martin-Syc Kriváň placed best among fresmen (48.826 s).

The race would not be what it could be, if Maťo Homola, the ambassador of the race, did not sit behind the wheel. He faced Lukáš Benedik, the last year winner, and eventually defeated him only by a few hundredths of a second in the third round.
